As ArgyleGA and Lady-Tam have mentioned previously, we are starting up a new webcomic. Or restarting. Or whatever. I guess this time we're taking the whole thing more seriously. Which is definitely a good thing. The problem is that it has been a long while since I've drawn and even then, it wasn't a regular activity for me.
I guess I never took myself as an artist seriously. Which, come to think of it, feels like a foreign concept to me. I just don't see myself as an artist, even though I'm supposed to be the artist for the comic strip.
So, I have a plan.
First, I'm going to start thinking of myself as an artist. Y'know, wear a turtleneck, buy a mac, drink expressos.
Second, I'm going to draw daily. One of the problems I've had is that I have no clue what one draws when one draws daily. Artists are supposed to be creative, right? My creative well, however, is a little dry these days.
One of the other major problems I have is scheduling. I have a tendency to let myself fall into the rut of "go to work, go home, watch tv, let brain rot." I'm getting tired of that being my schedule for the day, I want to do OTHER things. Drawing, excercising, etc.
I at least found a website that might help me with the first problem. They had some tips on drawing warm-ups, and I plan on following that in an attempt to get the juices flowing again. Here's most of the article from Practically Creative:

Choose a category each day to draw in your journal. Divide your paper into 8 - 12 small sections. Decide on the length of time you want to devote to this. My suggestion is to start with no more than ten minutes. Quicker sketches will loosen you up. Later on, you may want to devote more time to the sketches.
Draw a version of your chosen category in each of the sections.
The idea is to warm-up your creative brain by doing quick, non-threatening, simple drawings. Doing a lot of drawings of one thing helps you explore your visual knowledge of that category. You will find that youre going to learn a lot about yourself, your visual memory, your ability to express a simple thing quickly and youll find yourself being more observant of that category once youve done the exercise.
Try it. Its fun and youll be amazed how much it will stretch you.
Heres a list to get you going:
Fruit
Trees
Kitchen utensils
Food
Dogs
Cats
Fish
Furniture
Cars
Containers
Light/heat sources
Windows
Residences
Animals
Clothes
Birds
Flowers
Sea life
Things people carry
Things on the floor
Things you see at the beach
Baby things
Teenagers things
Things in the sky
Hats
Toys
Vehicles
Weather
Bad Habits
Good Habits
Emotions
-----------------------------------------
So, today I plan on drawing some fruit, I'll scan and upload the results tonight or tomorrow. If anyone knows any way to help with the scheduling problem, let me know, I could use some order in my life.

I looked up at the tallest building
Felt it falling down
I could feel my balance shifting
Everything was moving around
These streets so fixed and solid
A shimmering haze
And everything that I relied on disappeared
